Purchased in 2010 and played only few minutes. Stored in case (included), the horn has been lightly cleaned with a cloth. I have no experience and would rather not risk damage, so, I am leaving the finish cleaning and polishing to new owner. Should clean up very nicely.
In really nice condition, considering the age and not being restored.
This is the description by previous owner:
Olds "THE OLDS" MODEL TRUMPET, from about 1932 according to current internet info.Very rare in this condition, most of these were played a lot, these were the basic pro trumpet in the early days. NICE horn, Beautiful un-restored condition, HAND polished brass. I believe it has all the ORIGINAL PARTS. Valves show no wear as they were re-done by Anderson's via Charlie Melk a few years ago. Really made it sing and gave it that new, tight feel. Valves are not even broken in yet. Looks better in the hand than in the photos. Made at the LA plant .Bore 452, ( marked "LM" On other side from serial #) serial # 5390 (1932 or so) .Notice all original rods, A# C# adjusters in place with thumb screws.
Few MINOR scratches in the brass, flecks here and there on the horn, very straight horn, no dents/dings just a beautiful example of this model from an early pre super, pre super recording era, one of the best un-restored vintage pro Olds I have seen .VERY attractive instrument, this trumpet had no issues when I received it. The pads, water key pads, corks & springs on the valves are new, replaced. Includes #3 Olds mouthpiece.
This instrument makes incredible sound, broad depth of tone from jazzy/smokey like to bright lead as you wish, you can get clear tone and articulation out of just a whisper volume too, a sign of a little used instrument, great low end. Really neat example. These models are some of the most beautiful early pro Olds models. The reputation they enjoy is well deserved in my opinion. The super recording model came along just about the same time as this model, they were making great stuff in those days, this one is just a beauty, engraving (nice and sharp!) done mostly by hand, just flat out stylish.Has a deep flugel type sound with a deep mouthpiece, can be brighter with more shallow piece. These are what I would call a bit heavier version of a Olds super, same clarity of tone, cutting sharp slotting and huge tone, projection, they light up when pushed,a solid feel in the hand, Good lead horn, tight compression as slides all work perfectly, not too loose or tight everything fits perfect, a pro's pro trumpet. If you have not heard about this model, ask around, if you have...Then you know. Plays so amazing , effortless. Valves are very good and fast, are beautiful surface wise & are in great playing condition, Great compression, much air noise when you pull a slide. Trumpet has nice smooth finish, Looks beautiful , feel is very good, I rate 9 out of 10 for looks. Original condition. For playability I rate it a 9, really fun, I've not played a 10......
Case included. Nothing to look at but does the job. May be as old as the horn.
